The beer that attacks Gordon Brown
By Alex Singleton on Apr 4, 2008 in Politics
Here’s my piece from Telegraph.co.uk on a new beer that attacks the Prime Minister:
I’m yet to see the poster barring Alistair Darling from entering pubs, but on a visit today to a Wetherspoon pub I had a pint of Welton’s Casablanca beer. It is a real ale brewed in Horsham and its marketing at the pump is distinctly hostile to the Prime Minister.
The branding complains about Gordon Brown and his government’s handling of Northern Rock; his dithering over an election last autumn; his “boom and bust”, high tax and spend policies; the lack of an EU treaty referendum; and the ceding of power “to dictators in Brussels”.

The government do seem to have alienated the real ale fraternity in a big way. They seem to club all drinkers together rather than recognise the clear differences. They don’t seem to realise that real ale drinkers are discerning and responsible on the whole, and probable to a greater extent natural supporters of Labour. As far as the EU is concerned it’s only Mad brewers, religious fanatics and fascist rags called for a referendum. No one else gives a bugger, because there is nothing of a threat to give a bugger about!
